Caricatures and Cartoons – Steve Pole’s 60th Birthday.

Caricature and Cartoon ‘illy for a retired Spanish Client Steve Pole who was celebrating his 60th Birthday in style. He also happened to be into Formula 1, so the Spanish Circuit de Catalunya was a useful starting point. Handy as Id worked for several years for the Renault F1 Racing Team, so had lots of reference material for this one, which had to include his Wife and nearest and dearest in the illustration. These always start off as pencil, pen and ink drawings for the genral composition, (using photography of the folks involved and a good old fashioned bit of kit called a ‘light-box’ originally used for drawing and viewing film transparencies after shoots, all made for me originally whilst attending Weston Super Mare School of Art in the ’80s!), all to complete the initial drawings. When all is good to go, everything is hi-res scanned in digitally and its over to Photoshop for the finished illustration for the final full colour print. Finished ‘illy crossed the finished line apparently with the client, lots of bubbly, so all good stuff.
